Who We Are & What We Do

Ask a Librarian is an Internet chat service provided by library staff from the following partner institutions:

  • Booth University College Library
  • Brandon University Library
  • University of Manitoba Libraries
  • University of Winnipeg Library
  • Winnipeg Public Library

Hours:

Monday -Thursday 9:00am - 11:00pm
Friday and Saturday  9:00am - 5:00pm
Sunday 1:00pm - 9:00pm

What we CAN do:

Ask A Librarian is designed to give quick answers to basic questions about library services and research.  We will try to answer your question in the most efficient way possible and direct you to more information that you will find helpful. Examples of the types of questions we get are: "Do you have this journal article?" or  "What are the hours of the BU Library?"

If you need more in-depth research assistance, we will refer you to the appropriate person or department.

What we CAN'T do:

  • Ask A Librarian can't obtain access to databases, ebooks and other electronic materials if they are restricted to registered users of the library that owns them.  If you aren't a registered user of the owning library. e.g. U of M databases are not available to BU clients.
  • We don't provide document delivery or book loans. We will refer you to the appropriate departments.
  • We can't do technical troubleshooting. We will refer you to the appropriate office or department for technical support.
  • We can't give writing support, but we can refer you to the University's Writing Centre.
