August Virtual Displays

The virtual displays for August are International Cat Day, International Dog Day, International Pirate Month, and World Photography Day.

The following sections have a variety of topics regarding both displays. Physical displays can also be found by the main circulation desk in the John E. Robbins Library.

International Cat Day

This holiday was created in 2002 by the International Fund for Animal Welfare as a way to raise awareness for cats and how to best help them. It is since held annually on August 8th worldwide. This display contains stories about both cats and kittens as well as links for various vets and animal shelters.

International Dog Day

This holiday was founded in 2004 by Colleen Paige, a dog trainer, author, animal rescue advocate, and more. It is held on August 26th every year to held boost adoption from local shelters and adoption drives. This display contains stories about both dogs and puppies as well as links for various vets and animal shelters.

International Pirate Month

An extension of Talk Like A Pirate Day (held annually on September 19th), this commemorative month celebrates naval history as well as pirate folklore and literature. Come join us as we celebrate Arrr-gust together!

World Photography Day

Say cheese! World Photography Day is held annually on August 19th to celebrate all things photography. Take up a new hobby and embrace your inner photographer with this display. Topics include collections, discussing photography, and the history of photography.
